November 10, 1996, Boca Juniors was out of fight for title and his Manager -Carlos Bilardo- set rookie “Riquelme” as a starter against Union -Santa Fe-. Unknown for everyone, former Argentina’s coach put his eyes on him after saw him playing in Argentinos Juniors training camp and bought him with another group or players.
Diego Latorre used to tell that he’d have a tought check all over the game and told Juan Roman that he’d be free to deal with the game. It was a big surprise for all the people in “La Bombonera”: his IQ allowed him to take the reins of the game. He completed such a great game, that the fans singed his name earlier before half time.
He has the honor to share the field with Diego Maradora under Hector Veira’s coaching, but Carlos Bianchi was the one that could improve his capability and his skils in the field -he won two Libertadores de America’s Cup and one Intercontinental Cup againts Real Madrid in 2000).
Barcelona could not delight him, Villarreal idolized him (he reached out semifinals in Champions League) and Boca Juniors loved him. Maybe Miguen Angel Russo -old coach- was able to get his best performance in 2007 -maybe the best ever seen- when he won another and last Libertadores de America’s Cup.
The rest, is known history…
