By the third date of the Group C of the African Cup of Nations, Democratic Republic of Congo won to Togo by 3 to 1 in Port-Gentil, Gabon. Junior Kabananga, Firmin Ndombe Mubele and Paul José M’Poku scored the goals for the Congolese team while that Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba scored for the Togoleses.
With this victory, D.R.C. finished first in their group and it’s the sensation team of this Cup. This time, “The Leopards” gave Togo a soccer lesson and thus qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament.
During the 1st half, The Congolese Team was better than its opponent and it had the ball for most of this time and it started to reach the target defended by Baba Tchagouni.
In this way, Kabananga took a pass between lines, he overcame his marker in the race and scored the first goal of the match. During the complementary stage, Congo continued dominating the actions of the game and in 9th minutes managed to extend the advantage through Firmin Mubele Ndombe. Togo reacted and tried to reduce distance on the scoreboard.
When they were playing the 24th minutes of the second half, Laba received a pass from Adebayor (32-years forward who has not had a club in the last 6 months) and scored the partial 2-1. However, close the end of the match, Congo had a free kick that M’Poku changed by goal putting definitive figures to the game and guaranteeing the top spot of Group C for the team of Jean-Florent Ibengé.
Morocco is the other team qualified to the next stage, while Togo and Côte d’Ivoire has been eliminated to the Cup.
