With Diego Cocca back in the bench as coach, The Academy shined again and gave a thrashing to its eternal opponent, beating it three to zero in the Padre Martearena Stadium in Salta. One of the goals was made by Brian Fernández, an ex-player from Defensa y Justicia who was sanctioned after a positive doping test. The other two goals were scored by Gastón Díaz y Diego González.
Independiente hasn’t scored any goal in a friendly game yet since Ariel Holan started coaching the team. In the first game of 2017, against Atlético Tucumán, he decided to play with a substitute team, keeping all the best players for the derby, which maybe wasn’t the greatest idea after seeing that the team couldn’t create a good connection between each other or any risk situation against Agustín Orión. On the other hand, Racing started the game with more zest than football and showed its steadiness in its lines to celebrate again in a match that it’s never completely friendly.
Gastón Díaz scored the first goal of the evening in the 13th with a low shot than hit Martin Campaña’s right post after Lisandro López give him the ball with a great technical movement. The Red team didn’t had a chance to react when Marcos Acuña ran from the left side of the field into the area and “The octopus” González pushed it scoring the second goal in the 19th minute of the first half.
With a lot of advantage in its side, Racing slow the intensity just a little bit and gave chance to Independiente who demanded to Orión in some occasions, even though, a penalty kick was supposed to be counted in his favour after the ball hit Luciano Aued’s arm, but the referee Patricio Loustau didn’t sanction it. In the second half, Holan’s team continued shyly starring the match but couldn’t archive any goal situation, Racing, on the other hand, missed the change to increased the scoreboard with “The Panter” Bou. The last goal of the event arrived close to the end when Francisco Cerro matched with Brian Fernández stayed face to face with Martin Campaña to close the scoreboard.
Racing celebrated once more against its endless opponent. It gave a thrashing, 3 a 0, like last November in the local tournament and again scored three times like last summer with the substitute players. In any point of view, it’s a very positive thing that Diego Cocca is back coaching. About Independiente, this 2017, up to now everything has been negative.
